History

The City of Sebastian started as a haven for only a few dozen pioneers in the late 1800's, expanding over the years due to it's ideal fishing location and treasure-laden coastline. Nestled between the Indian and St. Sebastian rivers, Sebastian has retained a distinct charm over the years. In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt issued an executive order, declaring Pelican Island the first national wildlife refuge in the United States.
